Top Ranking Students from the Class of 2022

Truly motivated by faith, love and sisterhood, this extraordinary group of young women achieved so much during a remarkably challenging time in our world. And while academic achievements including over $30 million in college scholarships, multiple merit awards and 3 athletic state championships are among them, perhaps the greatest achievement has been the renewed sense of spirit and sisterhood that they brought back to our school. These young women harnessed their power as leaders and mentors to reinvigorate our student community.

We want to give special recognition to our top ranking students from the class of 2022:

Mehr Chhatre - Valedictorian

During her time at SHA, Mehr was a part of Orchestra, served on the STUCO Executive Board in various roles, belonged to Mu Alpha Theta where she led the first ever SHA STEM Week, started the first TSA chapter at SHA and served as the CT TSA President this past year. Additionally, Mehr belonged to the NHS, SNHS, and Spanish Honor Society. For all four years, Mehr was a peer connector (PC) and wrote for our student newpaper, The Alethea.

Dr. Sengupta's mentorship and biotechnology research class really helped Mehr to find her passion for research and deepened her interest in STEM. Mehr shares, “Dr. Sengupta has always encouraged me to try new things and to explore, and through this, helped me to find my passions.”

Mehr will be attending the University of Connecticut at Storrs majoring in chemical engineering and minoring in math, participating in their honors program as a UCONN Nutmeg Scholar.

Chiamaka Alino - Salutatorian

In addition to being class president during her junior and senior year, Chiamaka served on Shades of SHA club, BSU, Math/science honor societies, M3 comp, Math league, student leader of Kairos and a NHS Musical member. Honors and AP Chemistry teacher Dr. Christophy were a big inspiration for Chiamaka as those classes unveiled her love for science. In fact, later this month, Chiamaka will be going to Texas with her SHA TSA team led by Dr. Sengupta to compete nationally. Chiamaka will attend Brown University and plans to major in chemical engineering.

During her time at SHA, Delfina served as the Executive Board President (her senior year), M3 Math Challenge Team Leader, Math League President, a Peer Connector, Kairos Retreat Leader, member of the Campus Ministry Leadership Team, while also being on the Cross Country and Lacrosse teams.
