Diversity Week Celebration

March 25th, 2024 by Kara Redente

Diversity Week Celebration

On Friday March 22nd during our school assembly we celebrated the rich diversity of our school community. SHAdes of SHA, our student diversity group led by Madame Levallois, prepared an excellent presentation, fashion show, and Latin dance activity.

To kick off the assembly we welcomed Pamela Javran, Marketing Director of Havenly Community Cafe & Homestyle Kitchen. The cafe helps refugee and immigrant women find a job and a community. It serves as a learning space, source of income and organizing network for these women who are able to gain work experience through Havenly's fellowship program.

Next our students and faculty showed off pride for their heritage in a fashion show donning traditional clothing that represented their culture. India, Mexico, France, Poland, China, Ireland (to name a few) were proudly represented and celebrated.

The assembly concluded with a Latin dance class from Alisa's House of Salsa, a Latin dance studio in New Haven. Students learned salsa, merengue, bachata, and tango.
