Unity, Understanding & Respect - SHA's Interfaith Prayer Service
Gathering in the Mount Sacred Heart Chapel for First Friday Liturgies is a beloved tradition at Sacred Heart Academy. To keep this tradition alive during times of social distancing, Campus Ministry has created virtual prayer services to livestream into the classrooms so that we may continue to come together in prayer on First Fridays.
This month’s service honors the various faith traditions celebrated amongst the students in our school. This Interfaith Prayer Service was developed under the guidance of Campus Ministry Assistant, Ms. Clara Johnson, who says that she “hopes that this experience allows us all to gain a better understanding and appreciation for all of these faith traditions.”
The students in Campus Ministry created the theme for the prayer service, “Unity Among Our Diversity”, emphasizing that diversity doesn’t divide us, but brings us to a place of greater compassion, vulnerability and charity for one another. This service features readings, hymns and chants from Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Christianity.
As a school rooted in Catholic values and traditions, we reflect upon the meaning of the word Catholic, which is “all embracing”. Emma Liben ’22 shares, “What makes us different makes us special, and it’s what makes Sacred Heart such a diverse, special and unique community.”
