Annual Fund

The Sacred Heart Academy Annual Fund is the most important gift you can make each year. The Annual Fund supports the entire Sacred Heart experience and enhances all aspects of life at the Academy, including academics, arts, athletics and more.

Your gift has an immediate and direct effect on today's students and an immeasurable impact on their future.

The Annual Fund also supports our Tuition Assistance Program, allowing more young women to attend the Academy who qualify academically, but are in need of financial aid.

Supporting the Annual Fund communicates your confidence in our mission, vision, and educational program.

“With a focus on faith formation, and helping young women achieve academic excellence, Sacred Heart Academy is a place where they discover their true sense of self. Whether in a classroom, on an athletic field, or as a member of a club or activity, students at Sacred Heart are provided with the opportunity to grow spiritually, academically, and socially, so they become the best version of themselves. My husband and I are proud every day to say that our daughters are members of the strong Sacred Heart Academy tradition.”

FAQs

What is the Annual Fund?

The Annual Fund makes dreams possible at Sacred Heart Academy and helps us reach higher!

This annual campaign raises unrestricted and restricted funds that allow the School to invest in our girls, our programs and our facilities. This fund directly supports enhanced professional development opportunities for our faculty and staff and a robust financial aid program. Sacred Heart’s Academy academic vitality (particularly during these unprecedented times) and our financial health are highly interconnected. Support for this important fund and a strong culture of philanthropy fund help to ensure that both remain strong.

What About Tuition?

At Sacred Heart Academy, tuition covers approximately 88% of our operating budget and the true cost of educating a student. Currently the gap between the operating expenses and tuition income is funded by:

  • Individual giving through the Annual Fund
  • Revenue from the various events throughout the year
  • Income from endowment
  • Outside grants and foundations

This is typical for most catholic and independent schools.

Why is participation important?

The most demonstrable measure of community support is the percentage of participation in the Annual Fund by all members of the community. Gifts of all sizes are meaningful to the School and its students and speak to the faith that you all have in our school. Participation is also a key factor that is considered by corporations and foundations when making educational grants. The very act of participating in the Annual Fund, positions the school to attract additional support – gifts of all sizes are vital and necessary for the School to flourish.

How much did we raise last year?

Last year we raised over $500,000 in support of the Annual Fund and over 1,000 members of the community made gifts, including parents, alumnae, faculty and staff, grandparents and friends. We hope to surpass those results this year and continue to increase participation.

What is our goal this year?

Our goal is to raise $600,000 this year and increase our parent and alumnae participation comparable to our peer schools. Please consider supporting the Annual Fund with a gift of any size.

How can I double or triple my gift?

Many employers will match contributions made by an employee to a nonprofit institution such as Sacred Heart Academy. The impact of your gift will be doubled or possibly tripled depending on the guidelines of such employer matching gift program. The Development Office is happy to assist families in completing  the paperwork to secure these matching funds.

Do I need to donate now or donate at a later date?

The 2022-23 Annual Fund mirrors the academic year beginning on July 1, 2022 and ends on June 30, 2023. To participate in this year’s Annual Fund, you may make a gift at any time during the academic year. You may also make an early pledge (which will help us gain momentum) and send payment at a later date. All payments must be received by June 30, 2023 to count for this academic year.

What is the easiest way to support the Annual Fund?

We welcome gifts made by cash, check, credit card or securities. Appreciated securities can also be an advantageous way to make a gift and to avoid capital gains tax. You may also make an online donation via our website.

Are my gifts tax-deductible?

All gifts to the Annual Fund are tax-deductible, as allowable by law. (Note: if you would like to receive a tax-deduction before the calendar year-end, gifts must be post marked, or processed online, on or before December 31st, 2022.)

“Sacred Heart has played such an immense role in the woman I am today. Excelsior, ever higher!”

Matching Gifts

Many employers will double or even triple charitable contributions made by employees and their spouses. If your employer matches donations made to educational institutions, your gift can be increased at no additional cost to you! The donor receives credit for both the original gift and the amount of the match. Please send matching gift forms and direct questions to Amy Caplan, Director of Institutional Advancement.
