Summer Internship Program (SHA SIP)

Vision

SHA SIP was initiated to provide rising SHA seniors with the opportunity to explore careers of interest through a summer internship program.

We hope to encourage students to apply classroom knowledge in a ‘real world’ setting, gain a valuable and realistic perspective on a career of interest, and access mentors in that field.

SIP follows a long tradition at Sacred Heart Academy of reaching out into our community in order to enrich our students.

Program Outline

Career mentors from various fields ranging from applied to theoretical work in science, math, humanities, and social sciences open their workplace to an interested and qualified intern.

SHA Juniors apply for specific internships from the available fields. They are then screened and selected by faculty in appropriate departments.

Internships engage students in at least 80 hours of career time throughout the summer scheduled as needed by the workplace.

Strongly convinced of the mutual benefit for the mentor and the student, SIP does not distribute stipends.

Why SHA students?

After applying for specific internships offered within SHA SIP, students will be matched to available mentors. Faculty review of student applications will ensure that students have taken and excelled in the necessary coursework to meaningfully engage in a given internship.

We are confident that SHA women possess the maturity, intelligence, passion, and dedication such internships would require. By the time our students reach the summer before their senior year, they have exhibited SHA’s strong tradition of academic, athletic, social, and moral excellence within and beyond the walls of Sacred Heart Academy. Thus we know that rising SHA seniors will continue this tradition in the classroom, in the community, and in the workplace.
