Clubs & Organizations
Students may select from a wide variety of clubs and organizations.
Academic Team
The purpose of the academic team is to promote academics, showcase the knowledge of students, promote a strong female presence in academic competition and enrich the academic skills of individual members.
Art Club
Art Club is for any student that is interested in art. The club is designed for the creative and motivated student willing to work on group projects, school/community projects and independent projects.
Athletic Hospitality Club
The purpose of this club is to offer hospitality to visiting athletic teams: greeting the team and escorting the members to proper areas, assisting in field and gym set up; assisting spectators in parking areas.
Book Club
The purpose of Book Club is to encourage reading for pleasure and critical thinking. Students are asked to read a book a month and meet to discuss the book that they read.
The purpose of campus ministry is to plan and lead the school community in various prayer experiences, assist in the planning and organizing of retreats, prepare school liturgies and organize and participate in service programs.
Classics Club
The purpose of the Classics Club is to explore and develop an appreciation for the cultures of the Greek and Roman world.
Dance Club
The purpose of Dance Club is to choreograph, practice and perform routines in various styles of dance.
Drama Club
The purpose of the Drama Club is to have fun while learning about all the aspects of drama through the practical experience of producing a small production. This includes teamwork, communication, commitment and responsibility, and experiences of acting, directing, producing, managing and technical work.
Earth Club
The purpose of this club is to raise the awareness of the student body in regard to the environment at SHA, in the community and beyond.
Fencing Club
The purpose of Fencing Club is to learn about and develop skills in the Olympic sport of fencing, which includes the foil, epee and sabre.
French Club
The French Club aims to promote better understanding and appreciation of French culture and to deepen the students’ understanding of foreign cultures in general. Students are not required to know any French.
French Honor Society
The Société Honoraire de Français, an honor society sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French, recognizes high achievement in French at the secondary level.
Italian Club
The purpose of this club is to promote the Italian language and culture through social and cultural activities. You do not need to know Italian or be Italian –American to join.
Key Club
The purpose of the Key Club is to form a community of a diverse group of students who offer a first impression of SHA in an honest and enthusiastic manner to prospective students and families.
Knitting Club
The purpose of the Knitting Club is to give the students the opportunity to learn or enhance a lifelong skill by working on projects in a cooperative social environment.
Latin Honor Society
The Latin Honor Society recognizes high achievement in Latin at the secondary level.
Math League
The purpose of the Math League is to stretch the students mathematically by participating in the New England Math League and MAT –12- Tests and to build confidence and self-esteem in students who are mathematically and scientifically oriented.
Mock Trial
Mock Trial gives students an in-depth look at the trial process. It provides an experience that simulates the actual trial experience.
National Honor Society (NHS)
NHS is a select group of students that strives to foster the intellectual development of the school community and to provide service to the school community.
Peer Connection
Peer Connection is a community of students whose mission is to offer a caring, Christian connection to their peers through confidential listening, mediation techniques, intervention strategies, and group support.
Photography Club
Photography Club provides a forum for discussion about photographic techniques, aesthetics and purpose. Students are given the opportunity to participate in group critiques, activities and assignments pertaining to the art of photography.
Pro-Life Club
The Pro-Life Club exists to raise awareness and promote respect for the value of life, while serving the needs of the most vulnerable in our human family, with special concern for the unborn, children, the elderly, and the poor. Members are committed to a respect for life from conception to natural death and to promoting life in a Christian way.
Prom Committee
The purpose of the Prom Committee is to foster a wonderful spirit with the juniors and seniors through a formal dance.
RAOK (Random Acts of Kindness)
Students will be given opportunities to participate in and recognize smaller acts of kindness seen throughout the school.
Shakespeare Club
The Shakespeare Club meets twice a month to discuss the plays, poetry and performances of the Bard. Other activities include readers’ theater performances and watching films.
Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)
SADD is a student organization dedicated to enlightening all students of the dangers of making destructive decisions such as drinking, abusing drugs, smoking, abusing their bodies and suicide.
Spanish Club
The purpose of the Spanish Club is to provide club members with an appreciation of Spanish Culture and an awareness of the unity that bonds Spanish Culture with the rest of the world.
Spanish Honor Society
The purpose of the Spanish Honor Society is to recognize high achievement in Spanish and to promote the continuity of interest in the study of Spanish language, literature, and civilization. The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese founded the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica in 1953.
Student Council
The Student Council exists to promote and encourage student leadership, to render service, to serve as a student governing body and to achieve a better understanding of the aims and philosophy of SHA. Student Council attempts to support and encourage unity within the school
TARC (Team America Rocket Club)
The purposes of TARC are to learn to work as a team, to learn the basics of model rocketry, to apply the principles of physics to real world problems, and to feel the accomplishment of doing multiple tasks and seeing the final result as a successful flight.
Technology Club
- Assist teachers in the use of their laptops for educational purposes.
- Keep the classrooms up to date with the projectors and speakers needed for classroom tech activities
- Become assistants in updating the new website, and assist teachers and club moderators who want to post some information on the website.
- Aid students whenever possible for minor repairs and software updates
Unity
Unity promotes tolerance and positive human relations among the SHA community.
The Arts
Honors Chamber Choir
A select, auditioned group of singers, the Chamber Choir performs challenging works from classical to jazz. The Chamber Choir performs for the annual Christmas Festival of Lessons, Carols and for the Spring Concert. Additional activities may include concert tours, recording sessions and performing at school functions. Honors Chamber Choir is an honors-level course that meets after school.
Concert Choir
The concert choir is open to all students. This choir rehearses weekly after the musical. The choir performs a variety or repertoire and presents a spring concert and other concerts by invitation. Additional activities may include recording sessions, joint concerts and tours. Concert Choir is a pass/fail course that meets after school.
Drama Club
The purpose of the Drama Club is to have fun while learning and helping others learn about all the aspects of drama through the practical experience of producing a small production. This includes learning about teamwork, communication, commitment and responsibility, and includes specific areas of acting, directing, producing, managing and technical work.
Musical
Each fall, Sacred Heart Academy stages a major musical production. SHA students work together with members of the faculty to handle every facet of the production—from designing and building sets, to blocking scenes, to choreographing dance sequences, to securing props, and ultimately delivering Broadway-worthy performances.
Orchestra
Comprised of a select, auditioned group of instrumentalists, Orchestra is a pass/fail course that meets Mondays from 2:15pm-3:30pm. Instrumentalists must take this course for both semesters to obtain credit. Students of various levels of proficiency (beginner to advanced) must already own (or rent) and know the rudiments of their instruments. Additional instruction is given to build an ensemble capable of playing musical literature of various styles and periods. Performances are scheduled throughout the year, including Christmas and Spring recitals.
Media Production
Our fully-equipped media production center is used for production of a daily morning show, Good Morning SHAmerica, which is broadcast to every television in the school during homeroom. The one-semester Media Production course enables students to learn the complexities of television studio production. Students are instructed in the use of the video camera and audio equipment, in editing oral presentations, lighting, scripting and directing techniques.
Student Publications
Alethea (School Newspaper)
The purpose of Alethea is to write, edit and publish the school newspaper. The newspaper, which is published four times during the school year, gives students the opportunity to further develop their writing and research skills, and express the ideas and opinions of the SHA student body.
Clelian (Yearbook)
The purpose of Clelian is to produce a yearbook that captures the spirit and activity of the school year and that serves as a historical record of the year. The yearbook gives staff members experience in the journalistic demands of copy writing, photography, and layout design in a computer-based setting.
PRISM (Literary Magazine)
PRISM seeks to discover the artwork, poetry and prose of SHA students and to publish their work in a formal literary publication.
